Our trip to the Bahamas

So we (read: I) haven't posted for a while. We've been busy. For the first time since Zoe was born, we left the kids at home and took off for a well-deserved three day cruise through the Bahamas. We left Thursday, then spent all day Friday in Nassau, all day Saturday on Castaway Cay, Disney's private island, and returned to Port Canaveral on Sunday. Then we spent Sunday at Disney World, where we hit all four parks in a day. Yes, we went to Disney without the kids. Odd? Maybe. They will have plenty of chances when they're older though.

The other pictures I posted today are from yesterday (September 10). We went to the art fair in Clayton, and the University City fire department open house.

Brendan and Hayden both made hats. Hayden is generally skeptical of Brendan's hat though. Posted by Picasa

The Bahamian Coat of Arms. For those of you who care (population = zero, I know), the blazon is "divided, in chief azure a rising sun irradiated or, in base, argent a Columbus ship proper surmounts barry nebuly of two azure." Translated into english, that means "a shining gold sun on a blue background, below which is a Columbus ship (the Santa Maria, I believe), on a white background above two squiggly blue lines." Sounds better in the original.  Posted by Picasa

A very important-looking pink building with a statue of Christopher Columbus in front. The Bahamas, or more particularly, the Caribbean, is the only place in the world where important buildings can be pink. Otherwise, its not a very serious color. Can you imagine the president living in a "Pink House?" Tanks parading on May Day past the Kremlin in "Pink Square?" I think not. Posted by Picasa

This is the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island, Bahamas. The resort was amazingly over the top, with everything built on a grand scale. Posted by Picasa

This is a large, important looking building on Nassau. I don't know what it is - it could be a bahamian Walmart, for all I know. Posted by Picasa
